Design Review of Rapu Rapu Tailings Dam and Monitoring of the Rio Tuba Mine The Rapu Rapu Tailings Dam facility is a copper-zinc-gold-silver mining project of Lafayette Phils., Inc. in the island of Rapu Rapu, Albay whose development and commercial production was halted due to a mine tailings spill incident. AMH was engaged as part of a third party independent consultant review of the design of the tailings dam.
The Rio Tuba Mine is a US$180 million facility for the production of 10,000 tons of nickel and 750 tons of cobalt in the form of mixed sulfides. AMH was engaged to undertake the monitoring of slopes for this facility of Coral Bay Nickel Corporation.
Preliminary Highway, Port & Drainage Structure Design of the Samar Bauxite Project AMH was engaged to render consultancy services for Pacific Aluminum Holdings, Ltd. in Western Samar. The services included the identification of possible port sites, highway alignment leading to the bauxite mine areas and preliminary bridge and drainage structure design. The mine area is considered strategic and vital, being the only significant source of aluminum ores in the Philippines. Estimates of its geologic reserves go up to 242 million tons, with average grade of 40.80% Al2O3 (alumina). The mining facility is expected to have a ten-year lifespan with reserves believed to be worth up to $25 billion.
Geotechnical, Geologic Assessment for Various Mining Companies
AMH was likewise engaged for slope stability and geologic assessment of mine sites, whose activities were spurred by the confirmation of RA 7942 (Mining Act of 1995). The mining companies for which AMH services were engaged included: Lepanto Mines (Mankayan and Benguet gold mining facilities), Dizon Copper-Silver Mines (Zambales copper-gold mining site), Lapanday Holdings (Davao), Apex Mines (Lumanggang Tailings Dam, Compostela Valley) and Taganito Mining Corporation (Surigao).
